"The Fantastic Four: First Steps" Rakes in a Nearly $220 Million Opening Weekend, Pushing Disney to $3 Billion Total 2025 Ticket Sales

Though it technically only released today, The Fantastic Four: First Steps is already pulling in big box office numbers based on Thursday’s preview screenings alone.

- As of July 27th, Marvel’s The Fantastic Four: First Steps has nearly $220 million worldwide.
- $118 million come from domestic box office numbers, with an additional $100 million from overseas.
- The film opened at number 1 at the box office, marking it the 37th consecutive MCU film to do so.
- The superhero flick's box office success also pushed The Walt Disney Company over the $3 billion threshold for 2025 ticket sales to a total of $3.19 billion.
- As the film’s opening weekend comes to a close, we also have a more concrete Rotten Tomatoes score for the film, which sits at an 88% Critics Score and a 93% Verified Audience score.
- The film is receiving critical acclaim across several different rating tracking sites, with an A- on CinemaScore, a 4.5/5 stars on PostTrak.
- For the latter, 86% of ratings were positive with 62% of viewers proclaiming the film “Excellent."
- The retro-futurism Marvel Studios entry also saw 46% of its domestic audience at Premium Large Format, IMAX, 3D, 4DX, D-Box, and ScreenX showings.
- The Fantastic Four: First Steps is off to a pretty strong start, beating this year’s Captain America: Brave New World by $25.6 million in opening weekend sales.
- While a far cry from Deadpool & Wolverine’s massive $444.1 million worldwide opening, it’s apparent that audiences are still excited to jump into the action of the MCU.

- Marvel’s new movie, The Fantastic Four: First Steps, is already hitting huge numbers, launching Marvel’s first family into orbit in previews alone with the biggest preview gross since Deadpool & Wolverine last year.
- The movie, directed by Matt Shakman, took in $24.4 million in Thursday previews, marking the biggest preview gross this year - coming in ahead of DC’s Superman.

- The Fantastic Four: First Steps is already garnering plenty of praise, many citing its retro-modern 60’s style as an element that is shaking up “superhero fatigue" at the box office. In the movie, we follow scientific genius Reed Richards (Pedro Pascal), who leads a space expedition with his wife, Sue Storm (Vanessa Kirby); her brother, Johnny Storm (Joseph Quinn); and piloted by their good friend Ben Grimm (Ebon Moss-Bachrach). When their rocket ship encounters a cosmic storm, it alters their DNA, returning them to Earth with superpowers. Now, we see them again after they have returned and become worldwide heroes, when they have to return to space after Earth is threatened by Galactus and his herald, Silver Surfer (Julia Garner).
