Disney and Lucasfilm End Legal Battle with Gina Carano
Carano filed the lawsuit last February.
After a year-long legal battle, Disney and Lucasfilm have settled with former MMA fighter-turned-actress Gina Carano after she claimed she was wrongfully terminated from The Mandalorian.
What’s Happening:
- According to The Hollywood Reporter, Disney and Lucasfilm have finally laid their legal battle with The Mandalorian’s Gina Carano to rest.
- Carano filed the wrongful termination and discrimination lawsuit against the media giants back in February of 2024, claiming Disney discriminated against her for personal political views after several inflammatory X (then Twitter) posts went viral.
- The actress played Cara Dune in the breakout Disney+ series for two seasons before being let go in February of 2021.
- Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy attempted to intervene, requesting the actress to meet with her about the matter but the actress declined.
- Lucasfilm spoke out against one particular post, calling it “abhorrent and unacceptable" before sharing they had no intention of working with the actress again.
- Disney and Lucasfilm attempted to dismiss and delay the lawsuit, to no avail.
- The suit was set to go to trial on September 29th, 2025.
- Details surrounding the settlement have not been disclosed, but Carano was seeking both monetary damages as well as her role as Cara Dune to return.
- Based on a statement from Lucasfilm, it sounds like Carano’s Star Wars return may be imminent.
What They’re Saying:
- “With this lawsuit concluded, we look forward to identifying opportunities to work together with Ms. Carano in the near future. We have reached an agreement with Gina Carano to resolve the issues in her pending lawsuit against the companies. Ms. Carano was always well respected by her directors, co-stars, and staff, and she worked hard to perfect her craft while treating her colleagues with kindness and respect."
