Iger Tapped to Lead Los Angeles Football Project
Over the past few years, many efforts have been made to bring an NFL team back to the Los Angeles market. With several teams interested, competing plans have surfaced and are to be voted on soon. One of these projects got a huge boost today as Disney CEO Bob Iger is expected to lead the charge to bring not one but two teams to a shared home in LA.
According to CBS Sports, Iger will head the project proposed by the San Diego Chargers and Oakland Raiders to build a stadium in Carson, California. Those two teams are competing against the St. Louis Rams in an effort to move to the nation's second largest market. Representatives for each team are currently in New York to meet with NFL officials.
Iger's new venture will not affect his current job as chairman and CEO of The Walt Disney Company. His role at Carson Holdings (the company formed for the project) will include hiring a president for the group and making a number of decisions for the stadium from naming rights to guest experience. In this aspect, Iger is viewed as uniquely qualified for the job.
Although Iger will only be compensated a reported $1 a year for his work, he will be afforded options to buy a portion either the Chargers or the Raiders (the NFL will not allow him to own a stake in both).
